Our mission is to create healthy and abundant oceans, for us and for the planet.
What lies beneath the surface of the thin blue line?
This is the story that SeaLegacy tells. This is the story that sparks a global conversation, and the story that inspires people to act. We believe that producing powerful media and art that gives people hope is imperative. Hope is empowerment. Hope is a solution. Hope is a game changer.
We are a collective of some of the most experienced and renowned photographers, filmmakers and storytellers working on behalf of our oceans.
SeaLegacy was co-founded in 2014 by Cristina Mittermeier, a pioneer of the modern conservation photography movement, and Paul Nicklen, the renowned National Geographic polar photographer.
For over twenty years, Cristina and Paul have used their imagery to convert apathy into action and to bring about powerful conservation wins.
SeaLegacy is a registered nonprofit society in Canada, which also operates under the fiscal sponsorship of the Blue Sphere Foundation, a 501c3 organization based in New York, USA. In January 2019, we’ll join forces with Blue Sphere to form an innovative ocean agency that will continue to pursue its mission under the banner of SeaLegacy. Our expanded team will bring together the world’s best photographers, conservationists, scientists, storytellers and strategists to lead a bold new movement to engage one billion people in ocean conservation.
